Why our economic model is not inclusive?

This week, Marco Bevolo and I were preparing the following interview for our research on the future of events. Our esteemed guest, Samir Bantal, mentioned he is working on a lecture for Columbia Business School on how the notion of “location” changes for retail and real estate and consequently for banks and investors. This chat triggered a reflection: we have a unique opportunity to make our economy more inclusive.

Why our economic model is not inclusive?

Among the many trends, the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated working from home for many — if not most — white-collar employees — a trend which we expect to have a long-term consequence on the future of these specific jobs.

Right now, many US tech companies are deciding the frequency of getting their employees back in the office in the long term. While in the old continent, the European Institutions have already declared they will reduce their real estate properties by 40% in the next ten years to pursue a hybrid office model. Hence Samir’s importance of the decadence of “location, location, location” as a central concept for retail and real estate.
